KRONE XDisc 710: Direct cut header now compatible across brands
With the XDisc 710, KRONE is expanding the range of applications for its high-performance direct cut header. Thanks to new adaptations, the header can now be used not only on KRONE BiG X forage harvesters, but also on John Deere and New Holland machines. The system is complemented by a specially designed transport wagon for road transport.
Spelle, July 2026: The KRONE XDisc 710 header, designed primarily for the production of whole crop silage, is specifically engineered for professional harvesting chains, short setup times and maximum operational reliability. The current further development of this direct cut header focuses not only on high cutting and delivery capacity but, in particular, on seamless integration into various forage harvester models from KRONE, John Deere and New Holland, including a practical transport concept.
Designed for high throughput and optimum chop quality
On the XDisc 710, two cutterbars featuring KRONE EasyCut mower technology are rigidly connected to one another; they are driven by a central input gearbox via universal shafts, each connected to an angular gearbox for positive-drive transmission. This ensures that the cutting unit delivers a very consistent cut, even at high throughput, which is a key factor in achieving optimum chop quality.
The rotational speed of the large 900 mm diameter auger conveyor, which is height-adjustable via an eccentric, can be precisely adjusted to the respective intake speed of the forage harvester using a three-speed gearbox. This results in a smooth, even crop flow without any load peaks. This contributes not only to increased throughput, but also to a consistently high chop quality.
A star ratchet clutch in the gearbox reliably protects the auger conveyor against overloads, while a positive-mode chain drive with an active central lubrication unit minimises maintenance requirements and extends the service life.
On request, the XDisc 710 can also be fitted with a crop press roller which optimises the crop flow in dense crops and prevents blockages. In addition, the direct cut header can be fitted with side-mounted cutting blades which cleanly cut through heavily intertwined growth and minimise potential harvest losses.
Transport wagon for safe transport by road
To ensure that the direct cut header can be transported safely by road, KRONE has developed a transport wagon specifically designed for the XDisc 710. This transport wagon has EU type-approval for a maximum authorised speed of 40 km/h and comes as standard with an integrated overrun brake, including an automatic reverse function and a full lighting system. The system therefore meets all the requirements for safe and compliant transport between operational sites.
The two-axle design, featuring turntable steering on the front axle, ensures stable handling and good tracking performance, even on tight bends. A rigid rear axle helps maintain directional stability on the road. The XDisc 710's unique top-mounting on the transport wagon is particularly practical. Four mounting brackets allow the header to be mounted easily while maintaining high ground clearance. The clear view when coupling makes the process even easier and improves safety when manoeuvring.
Optionally, the mounting brackets can be adjusted hydraulically in height. This solution is specifically designed for forage harvesters with small front-axle tyres and allows for easy adaptation to different machine configurations. The integrated hydraulics can be easily operated using a hand pump, offering greater flexibility in day-to-day use.
Conclusion: With the XDisc 710 and the matching transport wagon, KRONE offers a comprehensive, end-to-end concept for using this harvesting header with John Deere and New Holland forage harvesters. The close intermeshing of the header, the harvester adaptation and the transport solution ensures high operational reliability, short setup times and efficient workflows – both in the field and on the road. This underlines KRONE’s commitment to developing practical and cost-effective solutions for professional harvesting chains.
