"Quiet with Plenty of Power to Run Hard All Day."

Gibson Family Farms
For over 40 years Larry Gibson has owned and operated Gibson Family Farms, located in Morocco, Indiana. Their main farm location is located where Larry grew up farming with his father. Just as Larry farmed with his father, his son Matt and daughter Natalie have continued the farming tradition.
Working together as a family, Larry, his wife Vergie, Matt and Natalie have diversified their farming operation and have grown tremendously. Gibson Family Farm contributes in many ways to the surrounding community. Their diversification has allowed them to provide the community with a Pioneer seed dealer, custom forage harvesting, row crop farming, crop insurance, livestock, a feed store, a trucking company, and many other jobs asked of them.
The hay and forage sector of the business started off with baling small square bales for themselves and quickly moved into a custom cutting operation. These days, Gibson Family Farms is a full service custom hay and forage operation. They take care of everything from cutting, baling, chopping, packing or bagging. They employ approximately 45 people during the season, including 2 full time mechanics to keep all their equipment maintained and operational. Gibson Family Farms custom cuts about 30,000 acres of alfalfa and grasses and chops around 15,000 acres for silage, all to provide feed for nearly 20,000 cattle. In addition to the custom hay and forage portion of the business, Gibson Family Farms also grows approximately 9,000 acres of row crops and raise about 1,000 head of feeder cattle, with an expansion in the works.
For an operation this large, reliable equipment is a must in order to keep machines in the field. For this reason, Gibson Family Farms made the decision to purchase Krone’s BiG M 420 self propelled mower-conditioner. The primary operator for this machine is Bryan Walker, who says that he really likes the new 415 horsepower Cat engine in the BiG M 420. Walker said that the Tier IV Interim engine is, “quiet and has plenty of power to run hard all day!” Walker also likes the transport width of the BiG M 420 and the 26 mph road speed. Their newest operator, Elliot Tiedemann, also loves the hydraulic suspension system for a smooth ride as well as the ease of Krone’s optional QuickChange blade system. The QuickChange feature drastically reduces the time spent on changing blades. All in all Gibson Family Farms is very pleased with the machine and is especially pleased that they have been able to cut around 40 acres per hour with this machine.
The future relationship between Gibson Family Farms and Krone looks bright. In addition to purchasing a BiG M 420, Gibson Family Farms also ran a Krone BiG X self-propelled forage harvester last year. They were very pleased at the speed and efficiency of the machine, even the truck drivers commented on the power and the way the BiG X performed. Walker said that the other forage harvesters just could not catch him in the BiG X!
To a busy and growing business like Gibson Family Farms, quality equipment is key and they believe that they’ve found a winner with Krone!
