Mayor Luttrell Tours Krone Headquarters
Memphis, TN, October 31, 2013 – Rusty Fowler, Krone North America President and CEO, and Joel Braddock, Krone North America Parts Manager, met with Mark Luttrell, Shelby County Mayor, and Steve Shular, Public Affairs Officer, at the Krone North America headquarters in Memphis, TN.
During this meeting Mr. Fowler gave a brief overview of Krone North America, spoke about the trends in agriculture and explained the importance of having the headquarters located in Memphis. At the conclusion of the discussion, Mayor Luttrell and Mr. Shular toured the Krone office, training facility and parts and wholegoods warehouse.
Coming from a farming background in Bells, TN, Mayor Luttrell commented that it was his observation that cotton gins seem to be decreasing in number, while increasing in size. Mr. Fowler explained the trend he noticed with cotton gins is the same trend that is being seen in farms. Mr. Fowler continued, “while the numbers of farms are decreasing, the size of farms are increasing. Seed companies continue to improve genetics, resulting in better yields and improved pest resistance, and equipment manufactures continue to develop more efficient machines with larger harvesting capacities. As the world population continues to grow, so does the need for food, fiber and fuel, all of which agriculture can provide.”
Mayor Luttrell discussed Memphis’ logistical attributes for distribution of Krone parts and machines. Mr. Braddock agreed stating that in order for Krone to have a solid distribution network to provide for dealers and farmers, it is essential to have effective railways, trucking and global courier delivery services. Memphis offers an abundance of these modes of transport for Krone. Containers of Krone equipment and parts arrive in Memphis each week via rail or truck to be warehoused. As orders are shipped to dealers across North America, the equipment leaves Memphis on trucks and parts typically are shipped via FedEx. The Memphis location is especially ideal for parts shipments because it allows Krone to ship parts using FedEx next day air until 12:00 am, providing excellent delivery times to farmers.
